Picasso trigger with maroon clown?

Up until a week ago, I was planning on making my 75 gal. a small reef tank. When I was in my LFS several days ago, I saw a small (about 2") Picasso trigger that caught my attention and held it ever since. My one problem is that my daughter would kill me if I didn't get a clownfish. In the same store I saw a maroon clown that was about 3" long. Will these two get along in a 75 gal?
If yes, can someone recommend other fish to add with them, if any, without overloading the tank.
Thanks for the help.

I think that the picasso and the clown would get along, but the trigger would more than likely cause havock to your reef tank. But there are a few moderately reef safe triggers- blue jaw, niger, and pink-tail triggers could work in a reef tank, but watch it closely, and also put the trigger in last. Good luck with your tank, and be patient with it, dont rush.

Mark,
Thanks for the quick reply. Just to clear something up, if I go with the trigger, I'm only planning to add some lr to the tank - no corals. I assumed that picasso's are not reef friendly.

You can go with a fish only with live rock setup. The picasso will work in that tank. A 75 is the min size tank for a trigger, but it will survive in it. The maroon clown should go in before the trigger and should be larger than the trigger. So you could have the clown, the picasso, and maybe a good sized wrasse. Maybe another small compatable fish.

Mark,
That's the plan that I was thinking of - clown first, trigger later.
Thanks again for your help.

I have seen that setup work. As long as you add the clown first and let it get settled in then there sould not be a problem. From what I have seen with maroon clowns they can hold their own with more aggressive fish. Good Luck

sounds like a cool setup...but i would do add the maroon then a snowflake eel (small) and then the trigger...the picasso could work depending on the temperment, but you may want to consider one less aggressive triggers mark-24 suggested instead...but if your mind is made up about the picasso then i think it does have a pretty good chance of working...

Picasso's are general one of the less aggressive of the triggers. But there are some that are less, blue jaws, nigers, and pink-tail. But just because the species is generally less aggressive, but individuals will vary.

if i were you, i wouldnt add a maroon with a picasso. they may get along at first, but trust me, sooner or later the picasso will start beating up the clown and will eventually kill it. you need to decide whether you want agressive fish or community fish. i dont think people should mix them, as the results usually arent to good. if you want an aggressive setup, there are lots of choices for a 75. i just wouldnt do it, as it is asking for trouble, and i have seen picassos kill maroon clowns. bo
