Who uses it, where do you get it and how do you use it? Is it as good as people say or is it a joke?

Grocery store, in the jars/canning section. Yes, I use it, for killing aptasia (not had to in a long time) but can be used for dripping as well. I would recommend...

Mrs. Wages Pickling lime is the exact same thing as Kalkwasser mix you buy at a LFS except its about $2

On another thread someone said they used Lime from the garden section from like HD or Lowes. Well I found a 50lbs bag of Sunniland Lawn and Garden Lime. Says:
Corrects low PH (Acid) Soil
Adds Calcium and Magnesium to Soil.
Anyone know???

I'm not a chemist, but I can guarantee you that I would never use lime from a home improvement store, which is intended for your lawn, in my tank...EVER.

Agree but from what I read in a few different places has me confused. Its is made for vegatation also so I am guessing it is food grade as well.

Don't be confused....DON'T DO IT. You will nuke your tank dude. There are differences between pickling/canning lime and lawn lime, I'm sure of it.

From one who also uses Mrs Wages, I too am thinking what is the difference betwwen "Hydrated Lime, Mrs. Wages and Kalk when I read this thread..........
I could not think of any, other than maybe purity............ So what does the internet say..........
This is not a dot Com, so I guess the Mods should not gripe too much.
I found the proposal on the bottom of the list of uses of intrest.....
"It has been proposed to add it to sea water in great quantities to reduce atmospheric CO2 and fight the greenhouse effect".......
So I guess they-someone is thinking of a Kalk drip to fix the ocean??????

Pickling lime is great, I use it for both my Kalk drip, killing aiptasia, and killing nuisance corals like GSP.
Pickling lime probably has better purity than the kalkwasser sold at your LFS since it is regulated by the FDA.

Well based on that link I would assume this would be okay as it is Hydrated Lime
Wikipedia says Calcium hydroxide, traditionally called slaked lime, hydrated lime, slack lime or pickling lime, is a chemical compound with the chemical formula Ca(OH)2.
