LOL At first I thought the bicycle spokes were cracks in the glass!!
Can't wait to see what you do with it.....looking forward!

Well, I am trying my best to order a glass drill bit. I don't want to order a 1 1/2" bulkhead drill bit for one hole. So I am conflicted on what I should do at the moment.

If you have any glass supply places, call up and ask if you can "rent" a bit from them for an afternoon. I know a guy at my LFS who has done this with a local glass shop. They even offered to come out and drill the hole for a moderate fee. I didn't realize until I saw your tank how much real estate a RR overflow takes up!! Yours is going to look a lot more open. Have you thought rockwork yet, or is that jumping the gun?
I like where you're going with the closed loop system. I toyed with the idea but decided to opt for the KISS method...I already have 2 K4 Evolutions and 2 K3s, plus the wavemaker, so I decided not to reinvent the wheel...plus I admit I was a little leery about drilling my big baby.
BTW, I had to laugh when I saw your "SnakesGuide" to mechanical filtration. I'm working on an article for AFI submission right now about that exact thing!! I didn't even open yours, I don't want to be accused of plagarism....you and I do tend to think alike on some things, tho......
The multitude of different filtering methods has really exploded in the past 2 years or so, and I want to cut through some of the crap for new hobbyists. It can get confusing out there!
