Hey everyone, sorry its taken so long to get the pics...I didnt want to take them before because the tank was full of microbubbles from the new Remora skimmer. Anyway, here are some pics...any ideas on how to get rid of the ugly patch of hair algae? Its taking over my green star polyps (which are attached to the rock now.) Thanks in advance!

I love your tank. Wanna give us some tank specs on that thing? I've been thinking of getting a 12 gal aquapod. Do you have a fission skimmer? i really love your hammer coral

Thanks! It will look better soon, I need to clean it real good one of these days. I have been using an AquaC Remora protein skimmer (LOVE IT!) I upgraded the lighting to the 150w + actinics Finnex Fixture (I liked this over the SunPod because of the actinics.) Ummm...I switched out the stock pump for a Maxijet 1200 at first, now its a 900. I removed the ceramic rings and bioballs, but still have the sponges, I cant find any fish stores that sell live rock rubble! I just started dosing kalkwasser in my home-made auto top off I set up this past weekend. I have 4 fish: true percula, scooter blenny/dragonet, purple firefish, and a yellow watchman goby. I also have a blood shrimp and a clam!
I want to get more corals, but I have to go back to school and books/tuition aint cheap! I want to get something to go in the spot to the left of where the hair algae is. Can anyone recommend a nice coral/anemone/anything that loves light and would make a good addition to the tank?
I dont know what else to post, if you have any questions about something I missed, just let me know!

Hey Sugar
Your tank looks very nice. I remember when you were just starting and having you temperature swings.
I really like you clam too.
I think you scooter looks a little skinny though. Does he get enough to eat? Maybe you could buy some pods online or at the LFS to add to the tank.

I am debating taking him back to the store. The guy who sold him to me said he ate flake food (which I have heard some eat). He doesnt touch it that I see. I had a nice pod population when I got him, now there's none that I see. I think I'm going to take him back and get a yellow clown goby. I looked up buying pods online, but they are expensive and no LFS around here, that I know of, sells them. But the days of temp swings are gone! Now I am battling hair algae and diatoms. FUN! I'm buying an emerald crab this weekend, if that doesnt work, I'm taking the rock out and scrubbing it down, I'll lose the star polyps, but hopefully I'll lose the hair algae too. I've cut WAY down on feedings, I have a protein skimmer, I run carbon. I'm hoping all of this will work to get rid of it.
Pepito: I removed the bio-balls and ceramic rings. As soon as I can bring some live rock rubble I plan on removing the blue sponge also. I do put a piece of felt filter pad on top of the blue sponge, and replace that weekly. You would not believe how brown it gets in just a week! If you dont do that, I recommend it!
Thanks again everyone!

Very nice!
I love the variety!
A Mexican turbo snail ate all of my hair algae and none has ever grown back. I highly recommend them!
:joy:

I introduced an emerald crab yesterday, it picked at the algae for about 10 minutes, havent seen it since.
I dont think I'm ever going to get rid of this stuff!
