Here are some pictures of my 55 (a little over a year old now

My coral banded shrimp sitting on a patch of cyano growing on my sand
My mandarin (ordered in Feb '07 from SWF.com...thought he had frozen to death, but still going strong!!!)
My xenia "hosting" my anemone crabs (one just molted, the other is covered in coraline) X 2
My new BTA (from SWF.com) hosting another anemone crab (I love these guys, they are ALWAYS out and about)

DOH!!!..how have I gone a year in this hobby without seeing the word cyano??? Looking it up here...I believe that is what I have....$#%^@#$@
...I guess, being relatively new, seeing purple was good. This makes sense to me, I used to have a sand sifting starfish but lost it after a clown died on a long weekend and nearly killed the entire tank...guess it is time go invest in another (this one lived for over 6 months and was doing fine until the clown died and must have sat in the tank for a couple of days spiking ammonia in the tank)

its very easy to remove. In your situation your going to need to remove that whole patch with your hand. Then the next day its probably going to come back but not as strong so your going to wanna stir it up with a net or something. Keep doing that until it goes away. also i would feed less, having cyano in your tank means that there are phosphates. Cyano eats the phosphates taking them out of the water but the cyano releases elevated levels of oxygen that can become toxic. Im sure this problem will be resloved so no need to get worried. Hope this helps
