PICS of my new sump/refugium

Well I finally finished it, almost.
For those interested, here are some pics of my latest project. I changed over from my 55 gallon tank to a 75 gallon back in late December. Sort of did the change over fast, during holidays, and wanted to clean up the under tank mess, and add a refugium.
It's about done, except for a few minor changes.
There are 2 pages of pics - got carried away with the camera.
Anyway, I would appreciate any comments, good or bad, and thoughts you may have on me doing things differently. This tank is relatively new, and I know I will be tinkering with the equipment for awhile yet.
I am open to all suggestions.
Thanks
Broomer ( Brian )

:D me likes, i really wish i had built in a sump/refugium, like i told you before, but my tank was full of water before i got it done, and i am not about to tear it down, i am instead looknig for a container i cna somehow get through the doors(OMG, you'd thik it would be easier than this to find one over 5 gallons), but i will before it is done

just wondering what photoperiod and flow rate u decided to use. and please keep us updated on the results.

I know what you mean fshhub - finding containers to use under tank can be difficult after tank's full. I would've prefered to go with glass/acrylic. Hindsight is 20/20.
Jamie - I'm just running water through the refugium this weekend. Checking for any leaks that may develop, and then will be adding the live sand, rock and algae. Photoperiod I am debating - sounds like 24/7 vs. some other schedule. I'm going to run to the depot and get a smaller ball valve or globe valve for water flow regulation - the ball valve is working but does not have much turndown for flow control - the bore of the ball is too darn big :(
I've got it barely cracked open, and getting just a trickle. Gallon jug/stopwatch later to get it right.
Thanks folks

260watt PC's over my main - soon to add MH when I get some more cash.
Refugium I have a choice - 72watt PC's I have left over from a nano tank - or a small single bulb NO fluorescent from Allglass.
Probably go with the NO - but have not decided yet. Just gunna grow macro algae.

Hey Broomer,
I was curious how your put your pc lights on your tank. Are they suspended? (pics?) You have a lot of pipes over the top edges of the tank, I would think it would be hard to get a hood to on top. What did you have to do?
What type of halide fixture are you thinking of getting? Going open top?
Just curious,
Matt

Matt,
Right now I just have the PC's in the ABS plastic hood from CSL.
Not near enough lighting for what I plan to do with this tank.
I'm still debating which route to go concerning the future lighting.
Most likely I'll have to build a canopy to house the PC fixtures and add MH as well, and allow for room on the rear of the canopy for plumbing and such.
Tanks only a couple months old - I'm letting it "simmer" for a few more months before adding new corals. Great time to be spent on projects though ;)

Heh.He. I like project time too, Broomer.
When I saw the top of your tank and you mentioned halides it made me think of those cool aluminum fixtures by HQI. Have you seen those? They ain't cheap, but they sure are cool! Here is a link:

Take care and I look forward to seeing pics of your progress!

Yeah Matt - those are sweet lights for sure ;)
Aside from the overflow on the left, the piping arrangement on my rear right edge of the tank is a temporary measure - sort of experimenting with waterflows/circulation without using powerheads.
I've got another idea I will try later down the road that should mostly eliminate seeing any piping - but it's just an idea now.
Home tank projects are fun, and they keep me out of trouble, by creating more trouble LOL.
Maybe someday I will say to myself " it's done" and just sit back and look at it - but I doubt it :D
Everything's running well - no leaks - so time to add some livesand, rock and caulerpa -
See ya !
