personally i wouldnt recommend the suspended fixture unless you have special circumstances. i would just go with the legs if i were you. u want as much light as possible in the tank which means the closer the better. if your going to have the fixture close, then whats the point of the the hanging fixture?...seems pointless to me

i completely agree, i would much rather have legs then hung, but i'm looking at the aquamedic ocean light and it looks as if it can only be hung, please correct me if i'm wrong

Well, I'm not an electrical genius and I've shocked myself twice and started a fire with the flourescent lights I wired and hung in the canopy of my old double 55 gallon setup...so I went with hanging track lights, which work fine for me and were a total of $20. But...I have fowlr and my tank is under/near two family room skylights, so this is why this cheap lighting works for me...here it is.

the last picture is just showing how I broght the cord over to an outlet which happens to have a dedicated wall switch. So now I can also switch the lights on and off from the wall switch, which works out nicely. I am using "globe" daylight bulbs. If you have a reef system this obviously will not work as you will need stronger lighting.
