Pink rose BTA- Can I split them?

I was told that I can split them into two on my own the same way you can with leather corals and such....Is this true? If so how would I go about doing that safely. I have a VERY bright neon pink bubble tip. I have never seen one so bright pink in my life. I have had him for a few months. He is getting very large and instead of selling him I would like to split him if possible so I can only sell half of him and still have the other half. I would hate to have to get rid of such an amazing looking Anemone.

I would not attempt it yourself. I would just wait and allow it to happen naturally. That will be a much less stressful occurrence for the anemone.

They split on their own. They are a living animal. It would be like cutting off your arm. Who ever told you that should be examined.

Let's not get too harsh. People frag corals all the time and they are just as alive as anemonies. Coral propagation is a wonderful contribution to the world. It was a perfectly legitimate question.
Remember, the only stupid question is the one that is not asked.

Yeah my last green bubble tip anemone split on its own after having it in my tank for about a year...and it wasnt as large as my pink one is now. I have a reef tank full of corals and this anemone is starting to move around and climbing all over everything. he hasnt appeared to damage anything YET but he has been seen climbing over my blastos, all my zoos and mushrooms and even my clam. Just getting a lil concerned about my corals.

thats why I doubled checked her before attempting anything. A LFS told me I could split him in the same way as I would a leather coral. Didnt make much sense to me seeing as this thing has a mouth and stomach and how would it survive without it or with it split open. Any options I have to keep him in a location so he isnt trampling over my corals? And will he harm any of them? I was told the BTA usually wont sting corals? Anything I can do to keep him where I want... moving him where i want then feeding? or directing more water flow where i want him to stay? any help is appreciate and LION, thanks for all the quick responses.

also someone in the topic below "BTA splitting, bad thing?" says you can manually split them. Hmmm. Cause there is a few confused people ;)

To answer the question, can you split an anenome manually? Yes you can it has been done and it can be done. Now, is it a dangerous thing to do if you have never done it before. IMO yes very cutting into an aneome's foot is one of the worse injury's an anenome can recover from. Infection can set in and death is a certainty if that happens. Naturally splitting anenomes are the only sure way of making a healthy clone. In some circumstances you can force a split by feeding frequent small meals for a couple of weeks and then doing a large water change in your tank 40 % or more. In most cases this will force your animal to split.

This may not be the norm, but I just ripped my BTA in half(4 mo. ago), and now there are two happy ones. It was stuck to two rocks, and kept stinging stuff I didn't want it to, I was mad and decided it was going in my fuge. When I pulled it out, like I said it was attached to another rock and I ripped it apart. Both are doing fine in my fuge still, setting up a tank for them soon. They have been in there for at least 4 months now and both are doing very well. I'm not saying to try this, but you can split them manually, either by slicing them or just by ripping apparently. I didn't care if the thing died or not, I guess that is why I have 2 now. Go figure. It can be done, but it also could die as a result of you cutting, so it is up to you whatever you want to do. Good luck

Matt
