Planning a Lion Tank

Hello, I'm in the brain part of planning my next salt tank. Will be my 3rd!! This hobby is a sick obscession. I just got a great deal today on a 48" 55 gallon tank. I would like to get 2 dwarf lions. Is this acceptable for the tank size or should I just stick with one. I believe the variety I'm looking at will get to be 4-6". I am also wondering if I can house any other fish in with them and what would be good choices to go in with the lion(s). I have plenty of rock to go into the tank (got 200lbs with the tank, though I will not likely put that much in, and I am planning a mix of CC and livesand for my substrate. I havent even started the cycling of the tank yet, so I am aways away from even getting fish, but just trying to figure out my plans. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Hi guys. I have a 46 bowfront and a fuzzy dwarf. I keep him with 3 yellow tail damsels and a bunch of different types of corals. a friens of mine has one too. He hasn't touched my corals at all, nor my damsels. from what I understand they will not go for anything bigger them they can fit in their mouths. I love mine. He is great. You don't want more than 1 in a tank though from what I understand, and I'm not sure if all dwarfs are the same, but mine is a very finicky eater. Good luck!

If this is a Fu Man Chu lion that you are looking at than One per tank, this is not a lion that should be mixed.
Lions should not be kept with any fish that can fit in the lions mouth. In a 55g avoid Triggers, Puffers, Eels, Frogfish and other Scorpion fish along with angelfish with your lion.
If you are looking at a fuzzy dwarf, than IMO yes you can have a male and female or two females in your tank. If keeping two in a 55g I would not add any other fish to the tank, overtime, as your lions mature they will make up the bio-load in your tank, but you need to allow them this space.

I'm hoping to get a zebra dwarf in a group buy tomorrow. Any tips on keeping him healthy? Cindy, I know they are finicky eaters, what does yours like to eat? I'd like to be prepared with something tempting for him.
I'm planning on putting him in a smaller tank for acclimation and hopefully to train to frozen then move to permanent digs -right now a 30 gallon hex but I hope to find him a 46 gallon bowfront.
How big a fish can a 2" dwarf lionfish eat? I want to qt him with another fish, but not if the other ends up being eaten!
