Planning a NANO

I was going to set up a 75 gallon reef for my wife but I got a coral eating puffer instead. I now must make her a 10 gallon nano reef and I don't care what it costs with in reason. What do you guys recommend? Thanks in advance. JP:D

Well it depends on what is 'in reason'. I did mine for about $300. If money isn't all that much of a thing than I would get a Blueline 175watt Metal Halide retrofit kit for lighting. That way you can have anything in your tank including clams.
Here are your steps.
1) Get the tank and put in 4 inches of sand (live or dead, doesn't matter)
2) Put 'some' live rock in there. I would recommend about 10 lbs. You want to save a little room for rocks that you'll buy that have corals already attached. There are a few things I would love to buy but can't because they are attached to rocks that I can't fit into my nano.
3) Put in a a raw grocery shrimp for until your Amonia comes back down from it's spike.
4) Put in a small cleanup crew. A couple hermits and 4-5 snails of differing types. Put the lights in at least 3 days before you start the cleanup crew.
5) Wait a week then finish up your cleanup crew, something along the lines of what I have.
6) Wait a week-month, then put in your one fish :).
That's basically what I did and mine looks great to me. I spent $50 total on my lights. If you spend an extra $200 you can get the metal halide and be able to support clams and all sorts of coral.

Here is my NANO http://community.webshots.com/user/bammbamm74
I just bought that 10 gallon for $40 with the top. $25 for the Millenium 3000 filter, $15 for the Maxijet 600 and $15 for the Rio 200 and $12 for the thing to split the Rio 200 so I have flow behing my rocks.
3" sand bed (well, 2.5 now, will be adding sand) Couldn't tell you the live rock weight, but I bet it's near 15 to 17 pounds. Do the process like TJ said to cycle it.
Lighting, I would go with PCs, less Heat. I have 2 20w N.O. flourescent and I lose a lot of water with those. When these bulbs go out, I'm buying PCs. When you only have about 6 to 7 gallons of water....after the sand and rocks are put in there..... losing .5 gallons will cause your levels to change a lot. But with the 40 watts of N.O., coral life bulbs, one blue actinic and one 10,000K, my 'shrooms are doing great.
