I personally would go with a bluethroat. They are not that aggressive and have beautiful color.

Huma Huma or Nigers are good First Triggers.
these are very good first triggers . Stay away from the more aggressive of the family such as clowns and undulated . It's my opinion they are not a good begining trigger as they eventually will become too aggressive for a comunity tank .

A clown or undulated will probably end up dictating everything you can do with your tank. They are both fascinating fish; but can go from pussycat to pit bull overnight. Do some reading on the triggers you're considering and go from there. IMO, a big part of the decision is what you're going to put with them. (I love Nigers, but that's just a personal opinion.)

I love my Niger. So much so that I kept him ($20) over my $115 blueline trigger.
The niger definitely has a ton of personality and BEAUTIFUL colors. I am also a huge fan of his streamers. OH and his red teeth are a real bonus too.

I couldn't agree more . I love nigers and think they are one of the best looking triggers out there and the personality they have is awesome . Good beginer fish in my opinion .

I agree with CC and Crash. Nigers can look so plain at the dealers; but they are incredibly graceful fish, their movements remind me of a juvi panther grouper. I love the red teeth too, like a harlequin tusk's blue teeth; they really are a hit with kids. Really creep out the little kids my 9 year old daughter brings home. 3 tanks with gorgeous fish, and they all notice the teeth first! Another plus: I don't know of a hardier fish of this size.

Triggers arre myy favorite fish and Nigers are my favorite of the trriggers, soo I'll 4th the motion. They're hardy, easy t feed and one of the least aggresive as well.

My niger just got his RED teeth in recently and man he is now become a puppy in the tank loves to be hand fed. My huma huma also has learned to be hand fed his shrimp and loves it. I can not wait til I get my Digital Camera and post a FTS for you guys so you can see how my tank is DOing will have a Fuge and Wet dry going here in a couple months and new 265 here in less than six months YES. I am getting all the equipment first for the new tank was going with a 240 but convinced the wife for a 265 hey what can I say I could sell an Arab SAND. Now just have to get all the crap needed then the tank stand canopy then put it all together. Only fish that will be added will be a Sailfin and replacement lionfish maybe a Powder Brown tang.

Yes you can add triggers in after your niger. I personally have kept humu humu and a bursa with my niger . Neither was a problem . The only trigger that gave me issues was the dreaded green demon (undulated )even though he was last he made quick work tearing up the other fish .

Can't argue with the Niger call, great fish, tons of personality, and beautiful (throw in hardy and inexpensive too). I loved mine, like srfisher said, a lot of times they just don't look as impressive at the LFS as they do once they become part of your tank.

Having lived in Hawaii lol, The Humuhumunukunukukuapoa'a is most certianly your best bet for a starter trigger, they are very hardy fish and wont get GIHUGIC, ie: 8023752 inches and need the 7 seas to roam.
