plans for building a canopy

I'm looking for some plans on how to build a canopy for my 75 gallon tank. It is a standard size tank: 48 1/2" long and 18 1/2" wide. Can anyone help me find some or where to buy one premade? TIA

For plans maybe on this board. Just do a search. There is a company that makes them.

I have just started making a canopy for my tank, which is the same size as yours. Are you building it for MHs?
The way mine will be constucted is there will be a 10" high pine sides (3/4") and back with a plywood top. The sides go right to the edges of the tank and I am going to have trim boards make a small lip around the edge of the tank to keep it in place. The front (same wood as back and sides) will open with a piano hinge. I know this is a vauge description but if you want I will take pics during the constuction.

I have just finished my DIY canopy for 75 G tank out of Plywood.
It is not the most beautiful canopy in the world but it house my lighting need.
2x110 VHO (Workhorse 7) and 2x175 MH e-Ballast (HighHorse)
Pics will availible in couple days.

i just built a hood for my 75, same design as jeo. left the back open for venilation. it is really easier than you think, and cheaper. my roommate and i built a hood for a 75 and a 55 costing about $70 for materials, with wood left over. the most time consuming part is painting/sealing the wood.
i wish i had some pics to show or the measurements but i do not. just make sure its high enough off the water, and plan for some venilation (ie a small fan). good luck and have fun with it!
ps i might be able to find the old measurements, and i will post them for ya.

I just have to say that you need to be careful with plywood. Either buy real thick stuff, or seal it with water sealant REALLY REALLY well on the inside and out. It will warp severly within a year!! Trust me on this one, i made a very bad mistake one time. Now i only use solid wood.
