I'm looking or a good plant or algae to place in my main tank for asthetic value, but if its a good nutrient exporter that would be nice. its only a 55 that im going to go reef with so theres not a ton of room.

I think Halimeda is a good choice, non aggressive and exports nutrients (although not as well as chaeto or caulerpa ~ but I wouldn't put either of those in a DT), but it also uses calcium and iodine so may not be a good choice form some.

i do water changes every other week... woudl that suffice to keep the levels up? I'm trying to stay away from dosing if possible.

I would think so, unless you have a lot of SPS or high calcium demand corals. I do water changes once a month, and have seen no decline in calcium levels ~ iodine may be another issue (don't have a test kit yet for it ~ ordered but hasn't arrived).

take a look at the codium intricatum thread below thats a nice macro, there are also red algaes like red gracillaria thats very asthetic, there are many macrtos out there that just arent popular because everyone yells out the words "cheato is great" so loud everything else gets overlooked.
I would suggest you steer clear of any form of caulerpa in your DT.
the first picture is red grac. and the second is one I havent figured out the name of yet but I love the way it looks.
