Plants on live rock

I have a lot of green plants on my live rock. Is it ok to pull them out by hand or is there a better way?

When my macro algae is growing wild and taking over I usually pull it out a little with my hand and snip it off with scissors. I don't know what the best way is but this works for me. By the way, if I didn't have scissors handy I wouldn't be against pulling it out with my hands. It is pretty hardy stuff and always grows back for me.

Macro algea is good, but can get out of control and smother corals. I personally like some on my rock but stay on top of keeping it under control. I put alot in my refugium and there it can do whatever. But in my main tank it has to be controled.
