Plastic cup in tank???

I read a post a while back in regards to fragging- it suggested putting your frags into a plastic cup (tupperwear like) with some rubble, net the top and place in a low flow area. Is there any chance that using a plastic cup can hurt my tank? My dad warned that he once replaced a plastic piece on his tank and his tank crashed. I have a lot of free flowing zoo's and mushrooms that I would love to do this with- much easier than superglue! Just a little scared to put something not intended for my tank into it.

if it is just a plastic disposable cup, it should do no harm if u just hang it from the side or wherever. just rinse it well with tap water first and make sure that no peices are breaking off and monitor it at first and make sure that fish dont nip at it. cause if they eat it, it could harm the fish but other than that, you should be safe. (id still use a 4x3x3 tuperwear or somethin cause you'll get more area in that than in a little cup)
