I was telling the guy at my lfs the other day that I'm getting ready to set up a turf scrubber on my tank and he told me that if I used a plastic tub for the sump to make sure I got one that was food safe so it wouldn't leech chemicals into my water. What tubs are food safe?

Algae scrubber, DSB, Sump, Refugium, they are all the same thing. They hold your tank water and provide extra filtration. There are lots of aquarist that employ a variety of containers to get the job done. I think maybe the most popular is the rubber made storage bins. I have seen brute garbage cans, 5 gallon buckets, kitchen trash cans, ect. I think the most important thing is to make sure that the container is new and has not been used for anything that you would not put in your tank. Plastic will absorb what ever has been in there.
For a scrubber, depending on the size of the scrubber you are going to build. I would just grab Homers 5 gallon bucket from the big orange home store. If that wont fit either under your tank or above it. I would look at the Rubber made storage bins.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
