plate coral

how do you if a plate coral died?
we have one the mouth has been opened and it looks like there is sand in there - is is dead?

it wil start to wither away, or look like its melting. it will start shrinking and you will see the skeleton around the edges.

we just moved the plate and will see what it does.
where do you live? we are in the islip area.

yea, i forgot to say that plates should be on the sand bed, not in the rocks.i dont if yours was on the rocks or not.
im in mastic beach, the shirley area. im about 25 minutes from you i guess, my grandparents used to live in west islp so im pretty familiar with the area. theres a few long island members around besides me. if your ever interested in trading some coral frags just let me know

the plate is on the sand bed.
the plate started out pink now has a lot of white on it. could it still be alive?
