Plate coral

I have a plate coral and it doesn't seem to be doing anything. I see the tenticles come out when the lights are off but nothing during the day. The coral is on the sand and under metal halides, is this too much light and should I put it in a more shaded area.

I am using Mark Weiss Reef DNA and Mark Weiss Black Powder plus all the normal additives like iron, iodine & etc. The plate coral is on the bottom of the tank laying in the sand.
My aquarium size is 75 gallon, nitrate 10, phosphate 0, salinity 1.023, alkalinity 2.5,Calcium 450.
I don't see any signs that it is dying (turning white) but I just don't see any of the tenticles during the day. I bought a blue & green fungia coral and the tenticals never came out of that piece.
Thanks

The plate coral expands during the night and looks real full and the tenticles come out. I have noticed this when I turn the lights on for a few minutes but I don't understand why it doesn't do this during the day. Are metal halides too much light for them and should I move it or take it off the sand & put it somewhere else?
Hope someone can help me with this.

I have a book " The Reef Aquarium" and I have read about this coral, except that it is not doing well were it was recommended to be placed. I will try finding a place for it that has less light.
Thanks
