Play sand

I was wondering if you can add like playground sand or another cheaper sand, and put live sand on top of it, just curious because it would be a little cheaper and I am trying to start up my 44 gal pent. tank. fowlr

I would do the vinger test if it fizzes up it should be alright.

I did this in my 55 fowlr to save a few bucks and have regreated it every since

Then found the forums and learned that only certain types are "safe"
luckily I have had no major probs as of yet :cheer:
But am moving very soon and cant wait to get that crap out of my tank and switch over to the black and white sand, your inverts and gobies will stir it up making your tank look very cloudy, I also mad the mistake of now matching my play sand and LS so it was an obvious defference, hope this helps
IMHO its worth the extra $$$ now than the hassle later

black and white sand that is indio-pacfic from agra -live? carib-sea? that you mentioned? I like that sand look so spectacular for reef tank, I am going to buy these.
