How does this BTA look? Sorry the pic is a little big I just wanted all of you to get a good close up on it, so you can tell me your opinions.

If you can not tell it does look a little shriveled up to me. Why might this be? When I got him he was on the glass at the lfs. And was like this then too, also on the way home. You cant tell from the pics, but some of the tentacles are grey and shriveled, they look like they are just dead. There is some white string that it has on it too, that seems to have almost wrapped around some of the other tentacles too. What is the deal? Did I get ripped off?

Looks healthy to me.
I have the same one, and was told that its norm. for it to shrink, and blacken. How long have you had it? Make sure to feed it. Drop the food in the middle. feed it 2-3 times a week. Some clowns will even pick the part of the fish you drop in and take it to its home, to feed it
. Pretty cool. They will split apart at some point. So dont worrie. Good luck with your new friend. :happyfish

I actually got him today, early in the morning. I got really scared though, a few hours ago he deflated I thought he was going to die :(. But within about 45 minutes he was back to normal. Actually looking even better now, the tentacles that looked bad are looking pretty good now. I did feed a him a little piece of shrimp earlier, now he is expelling waste. I also found a picture of a false percula clown in an bubble anemone the same color as mine, I put it up in front of the anemone and my clowns saw it and right now all they are doing is hovering about 3-5 inches over it. Maybe that actually does work. I just thought I would try because I read it is not too common for tank bred false percs to host a bta

now that I think of it, this does look like a Bubble Tip Anemone right? It was in tank that said Long Tentacle anemones too. Which do you think it looks like more?

Looks like a bubble tip that wants to be a long tentacle, maybe it's having an identity crisis
. Anyway, he looks pretty good to me, you wanna see a bad one look at my thread, I'm just hoping he lives until I move them all to the new tank.
On a side note, how did you get such a clear pic of your anemone? I'm experimenting with pictures, but can't see to get a clear shot that's in focus and lit well enough to see all the colors. I'd love to know what kind of camera you're using and how you're setting it for the pics. Send me a PM if you want, probably a bit off topic for this thread.

yeah he kind of does look that haha. Thanks I have a kodak easyshare CX7430. Usually it is really hard for me to get clear pics. But All I do now is not use flash, and there is this spining knob that is on it, and I turn it to closeup. Oh well I dont know what is going on, but my anemone is deflated again this morning. Why does he keep doing this? I will post a pic. Also my lfs has a really really nice healthy long tentacle anemone, would it be safe to add one? Or at least put the long tentacle anemone in a smaller tank I have just for a couple weeks, until the the bta is acclimated?

well this is how he looks this morning. Why? This is really weird. Could it be due to a new environment?

I would do a water change, stop feeding it for a couple of days and leave him alone. it takes time for him to adjust to new enviroment. Check your levels...the salt conntent is sure to be different in your tank the LFS as well as lighting, flow etc. Don't loose hope and I know it's hard to sit there and watch him like that but he will get better..I'm sure your tank conditions are a lot better than theirs. My anemone was almost covered in red slime algae at the LFS..at the time I didn't know what it was, brought him home and he looked exactly like that for about a week (although mine is a condy) he wouldn't take hold of anything floated around in the tank and then got caught in the filter! Luckily I was there and pulled him out..he then spewed waste for about two days (I guess it scared the crap out of him!) I thought he was a gonner. Within a week he puffed up, began accepting food and is now huge and doing great. He doubled in size and thank goodness I didn't get any of that algae in my tank! I was lucky i guess
good luck with him.

my parameters are all good I just checked them. Ok this anemone must have really werid mood swings I have another pic of him now
. Dont his tentacles look more bulb like than in the first one? Is that a sign is a little happier? Well in the lfs it does seem like I have a little more water flow, and a little more lighting. Who knows since they did have different species of anemones in there, and he was on the glass, he could have been trying to get away from them. Sorry for all these pics :joy: . Oh ok so the waste is almost gone, well it is gone from his mouth anyways, but now it is tied around one os the tentacles, will it eventually come off?

You could pull it off..I had to do it to mine he had a big wad around his column and it was there for about two days..looked like he was in trouble, so i reached in and gentaly pulled it all off. Yea he's tring to get situated, looks better.

You will get to know the time of day when it will go through diff. changes. Freaked me out also when i got mine. They didnt tell me about it. I thought for sure it was dead. Then bam, back to norm. it went. It might take a few days for your clowns to make a home out of it, but THEY WILL. If you have a pair they my want to have babys. So keep a close eye on them. :joy:

I was about to pull it off, but as I was about to do it my purple pseudochromis swam by fast and it pulled off itself. I have tank bred false percula clowns, and I thought it was rare for them to use a BTA as a host. Also if a BTA were about to split how would you know? I know that it forms another mouth, but how big would the second mouth be?

As my bta got larger and browner, it stopped have "bubble tips" and just regular long tentacles. That may be what yours is doing.

Oh ok thanks. Oh earlier when I asked what it looked like when a bta was going to split, the only reason I asked was because my looked like it had a really small mouth on one side. And when I got back home this is what I came to. I know I am in over my head and just a little excited, but if you all didnt know any better wouldnt it look like this one was going to split? This anemone has like doubled in size it seems like. Sorry I only have one pic to show as my camera stopped working, but it is in the back of the anemone.

All the pics (although very large ) seem like normal acclimation behavior to me. Please try to size pic's no larger than 500x500 in the future.
More than likely he is gearing up for a move IMO.

Oh ok Im sorry I will resize them next time. Yeah I think he is going to move too, because his column got skinnier and it seems as he is moving, but very very slowly. He is really big now too, I dont really know why or is that has anything to do with moving to a new spot.

Well it has been about 3 days, and he hasnt moved. He is still on the subtrate. This could mean that it is a good spot, but he isnt really close to the light, and he's not on the LR should I move him?
