please explain how to hook up fans

First off, what do i use to drill the canopy?
I think i wanna get 2 3inch fans becaue the 4inch will be too big for my canopy. I hear all this talk about 110v, 12v,120volt, what are the difference?and what should i get? What type of adapter will run these fans? Please explain to me. Thanks

also can the fan hang on the back instead? I have a wide open back with 4 inches of space behind the tank to the wall. Will it work if i had 2 fans blowing in from the back?

one fan in and one out hanging on the lip in the back
that is how i have it set up on 2 of my tanks
there are fans you can buy on pet supply liquidator and they can be wired into the ballast on the power side
those are the fans i am using all 4 of them
