I am somewhat new (2 years) to the hobby and have been blessed with no sick fish until now. I have a coral beauty that has been in my tank for approx. 6 months. Just a few days ago I noticed these little clear colored horns sticking out of the bottom of his gills (both sides) and a small sore on his side. Today the horns are still present but the sore is much larger and I can see inside him. he is in with hippo tang, 6 line wrasse, yellow wrasse and clown tang. All water tests are good and everyone else seems to be fine.

Sounds like a parasite in the gills, if you have NO INVERTS, take out all carbon and get good copper treatment and follow directions. If you have inverts, or live rock do not do this, you will have to catch him and quarentine him and treat with copper. Or he WILL die.

Hi, just wanted you to know that I too have a coral beauty and just a few days ago saw "thorn" looking things coming out of its gills. The only difference is mine are purple and I may not of seen these as clear. Do these grow lateral to the fish towards the eye? If so, IMO its a maturity state. Let us know what is happening as of now. ;)
