i recently bought a purple monti cap from sharkbait9 and the highest point of the coral is bleaching. i am running a 6x54 watt nova extreme pro light fixture with individual reflectors. 3 daylight and three actinic.
i just moved it on the sandbed down from its spot about 8 in from the light. i really need some help. my friend was taking care of my tank while i was on vacation(what a surprise it happened when he was watching it).
my guess on why its bleaching is either stn, rtn, or just a shock from the bright light. sharkbait9, if you're out there could you tell me what kind of lights you were running before i bought the coral?
thanks in advance

what are your tank readings?
it really should be a big deal on the lighting unless he had super low light like PC or normal flourescent lighting.
and can you get a picture of the tissue bleach?

how old is your tank?
and are you sure about the ammonia reading??
If so you just found your main problem. there is also an imbalance the calcium is way to high what is your alk reading at?

If you think it is bleaching out, really you can only save the parts that are still there and frag them off as long as you can make a clean cut without getting yourself in the process.
Unless you can change your parameters in 24 hours, then the water chemistry I don't think is going to be a HUGE issue for THAT coral (It will for the rest of the tank though). Just because it will probably take that long for the coral to die off anyways - by the time you have it fixed. I mean look at the parameters, like TX said.
Your DKH is just sub-burried and your calcium is through the roof. Hopefully you know someone with a tank where the parameters aren't like that. Even buying already made saltwater might still shock the thing.
If you think it might be light shock, you could go buy a cheap piece of acrylic at the local hardware store and spray it with some saltwater from your tank. As it dries, salt creep will form across the top and cut the light down a good deal.

I think your Alk and PH are a bit low and calcium is too high.
Slowly buffer your system.
get Calcium down to 425ish and Dkh up to 8.
PH is low cause Dkh is low.

i just fragged it a few minutes ago and to my surprise, it was fairly easy to frag. i used an xacto razor blade. by the way, i am currently working on getting my dkh up to about 9.
