It depends on your bioload. Any tank will benefit - and many require - a skimmer. My 24g nano has no skimmer, but I only have two tiny fish in it.
If you do decide to add one, then I know that AquaC has a skimmer designed for nano tanks that should work well if it's true to the quality of the brand. There is a skimmer out there for nano tanks called the "Fission" nano skimmer, it's not worth the plastic it's made from.

There is also one from Oceanic that just came out. I just put it on my tank about an hour ago. So far it actually works well, simple design, inexpensive $35 and isnt difficult to adjust. It doesnt use a power head it uses an air stone. Nothing spectacular but it does work...

I was just looking for a skimmer for my 10G. I WAS looking into the Fission, but SCSI talked me out of it in one sentence. I need a smaller one (u know...because its a 10 Gallon), but I need the quietest one I can find. My 10 Gallon is set up in an office I share with a couple of others and I need it to be quiet, one of the guys has already expressed his hatred for the sound of bubbles, and I have to agree with him.
