please help me with substrate questions

my 12o gallon with sump has been running over 6 months now with 1.5 inch deep white sand substrate and I am fed up with fine sand dust and detruis kicked up by the fish clouding the water.
I have a blennie, gramma, dog, yellow wrasse, foxface and a blue and yellow damsel that loves whipping up a sandstorm with his tail!
would switching to a coarser aragonite solve this? would my tank cycle and kill my fish? what would be involved in doing this. I`m sure it would be a ton of work.

if you mean coarser aragonite meaning crushed coral.. actually imo i would deal with the sand stir..cc hold nitrates in and they get released by stiring that up. hence another problem. Not sure about the cycle but i would think a slight bit of it would cycle and that would be stressfull on your fish yes. involvment would be basicly taking everything out. Dont let your rock dry out. youll get die off. Do you have a power head in your tank for added current or water movement. You could get one or more if you dont have one at all ... may give them something else to do ( mine all play and excersize against the current) rather then stir up your sand
