I have a question concerning caulerpa. i didn't put this in my tank..it's just growing from the live rock. i need to prune it. should i use stainless steel scissors? and is there a wrong way to do it? someone said they read an article that said there is a wrong way that will cause it to release toxins. i'd like to just take it all off my rock cause honestly with everything i've read i'm a bit scared of what it could do to my tank. please help me figure out what to do...thanks.

i work at a LFS and we grow our cularipa in the sump of our show reef-tank when it gets large enough, ew whip out the scissors cut the root and stick it in another tank and sell it

P.S. dont use surgical steel

Cutting it will not cause the release of any toxins. Cut it out or rip it out it does not matter. If you have a lighted sump, refugium or algae scrubber you could put in there to grow so it will remove nutrients and not take over your tank. If you want to remove it forever you will have to pull it out carfully hoping to get as much of it as possible. Maybe you will get lucky and get all of the root.

Ive never had a problem with just ripping it out. It just started growing from one of my rocks as well. I got sick of dealing with it so i took the rock back to my LFS and traded for a dif rock. I wish I hadnt done that, cuz the next prject is a refug.
