Of course it has to be ich! I was worried about getting tangs bc i know that they get ich easily. I don't get fish often enough for me to keep a qt up, I guess I should have reconsidered setting one up when i knew tangs were on the way. my question is-is there anyway i can go around puttin them in a hospital tank? I only 2 10 gallon tanks, they arent set up. My powder blue, hippo and purple tang all have it! It's like it comes and disappears. Some days its on there some days i don't see anything. Is that normal? I'm worried about putting them together in that small of a tank. I don't really have the money to buy another tank. Is there any other treatments that can be used on the display tank? Please Help!

Dear hobbyist, the best way of preventing ink is to quarantine your fish. Once ick is in your aquarium, its hard to get rid of ,but it can be done. If you have the money, buy a Coral Banded,or cleaner shrimp for about $10 to $20 depending on the size of the shrimp (Shrimp will pick the ick off of the fish). Other options are to buy a Cleaner wrasse, which will eat ick off of your fish without harming them. You can also turn up your aquarium heater for a about a week, but add more air to your aquarium. Another option is to perform partial water changes. The final option is to use Garlic Extreme onto the food of the fish until the ick is gone, which can take up to 2 to 3 weeks. Garlic has a chemical which can repel ick . Don't be deceived !! Ick can also be inside of your fish...So,getting rid of ick takes patience...Good Luck

IMO....Its going to be hard to hypop an entire 200 gal tank!! Your best bet is to get a bigger QT and hypo that.
Or go the hard route and remove your inverts to a QT and hypo your DT. I'm not sure there is anything else you can do if its that bad.

Tangs are notorious for showing signs of ich. They seem to have outbreaks when they are stressed. Most people on this forum have always used the QT/Hypo treatments for containing this disease. I've actually used the organic Ich products in my tanks for years with great success. I dropped a blue hippo in my 55 about a year and a half ago, and he showed signs of ich two days later. I treated my tank with Ich Attack per the instructions, and the ich was gone a few days later. Neither he, or any of the other inhabitants in my tank have showed signs of ich since then. I get the statements saying that ich is still in my tank, but if it is, it doesn't like attaching to any the 5 fish I have in the tank right now.

thank you all very much for responding to my post! i found out it was impossible to catch the fish...i gave htem too many hiding places. so i ordered some vitamins and garlic extreme to start incorperating into their daily food. i also ordered kick ich, i had seen a lot of success stories with it. but now that i've ordered that stuff i don't really see the white spots anymore. maybe a couple on the purple. so i don't know if i should still use the kick ich...what do you think?

I had the same situation with this blue hippo of mine. He'd have a bunch of white spots one day, then a couple days later they would disappear. Just when I thought it was sand dust or something, they'd come back. Interesting thing was, none of my other fish had spots. That's when I found out that Tangs are notorious for showing signs of ich when they're stressed out. Another board told me that ich may go dormant on a Tang, and the Tang can lead a perfectly healthy life with the ich in his system as a parasite. I went ahead and used the Ich Attack as perscibed, and I haven't seen another spot on him or any of my other fish.
