I picked it up today from a LFS. It's some kind of leather right? It's Beautiful!!! I know that I should research it before I bought it, but this LFS is really far from me... Any special requirements?

Carnations are very fragile. They dont like light. You need to place them in a dark area of your tank where very little if NO light gets to them. They need to be feed at least 3 times a week and they like a moderate current. Most aquariasts cant keep them alive. Even though the LFS is far away, it is better to next time do research before you buy. Since this is your first time with this species, chances are ...it will die.

It is in the same family as the carnation coral, but not the classic carnation coral. These are slightly easier, but just slightly easier. I agree that most likle will starve to death in captivity. I suggest you get some phytoplankton, live brine shrimp(babies), and some dried food like reef bugs, coral frenzy, or reef chili and feed it that. It is non-photosunthetic so light will not hurt it, but also will not help it. My inderstanding is that these particular coral hang upside down in reef ledges and need to be hung upside down to live healthy in captivity. I would try to feed it a little bit everyday. They get a dose of phytoplankton all day and a dose of zooplankton all night in the wild. You can not do that in your reef or all other reef inhabitants will die. These corals usually starve to death over about 6 months. I agree do your research and you will have a happier wallet and a happier tank. Post something on here about how to care for a carnation coral and post your pic. There are people that have done it successfully, but it will take some work and at that it is still 50/50. Good luck
