Could someone please identify this. I saw it at my LFS today, and the lavendar color was so pretty that I made an impulse buy (I know, impulse buys at the LFS are bad, but I couldn't resist this one!). The man said he though it was an LTA, but I'm not 100% sure about that, especially since the tentacles are so short and fat. But, who knows, maybe it is and I'm just that bad at identifying my anemones. It just went in the tank a few minutes ago. I just turned the lights on for a few seconds to take the picture, then they went back off so the anemone could acclimate overnight and hopefully get settled in.
Thanks all,
Joe S.

Looks to me like a sick BTA or Condi that has been injected with dye. Unfortunately, this is a way to sell dying, bleached anemones. In the end, they never make it.
Unless someone recognizes it as something else, that is my opinion.

My LFS is very reputable, and would never knowingly sell bleached anemones, so let's hope not. But, I'll do my best to make it feel at home. My Clarkii's starting to go near it, so maybe he'll host it some day.

Disc area is white or clear looking, coloration is absolutly unatural.
I agree this has been dyed, which doesn't bode well for the anemone at all, dyed usually = a death sentence.
Take it back if you can, immediatly

You may want to let them know so that they can talk with their supplier. Perhaps they unknowingly purchased one or their supplier changed their supplier.
It just saddens me to see this done to such beautiful creatures.

Either take it back, or try and care for it as best you can. Feed it every few days and lots of light. Perhaps keeping the clown away until it settles in to a spot to keep it from being over stressed.

It is unattached in that picture; that was just minutes after it had been placed in the tank. I really don't want to stress it too much right now, so would it be a good idea to leave it be for now, or should I move it to a rock?

Its called a red base anenome, supposed to be pretty difficult to keep. good luck hope it works out. it is cool looking though. its diet should consist of fish, mussel, brine or mysis shrimp and any othey meaty food that is marine in orgin.

Red Base Anemone falls under the heading of: Macrodactyla doreensis. I must say that the one pictured above doesn't look like any LTA that I have ever seen.
The purple tip Macrodactyla doreensis as a healthy animal should look like this.:

Well I'll say that anything is possible, I'll even take the liberty of posting the pic that you pointed out here.
In truth I hope that you are correct and the anemone posted first isn't a dyed one, because it would just be sad.

You can save any pic off of the net or from your own digi shots, then you may have to resize it. For this site it should be no larger than 500x500.
When posting your comments above the reply button is Attach file button, hit that and it should take you to your pictures or you can browse where your pics are, just click on the pic and it will bring you back to your post screen to submit.

Well, whatever the anemone is, and dyed or not, I've decided to keep it. I moved it to a nice little crevice in one of my pieces of LR. It hasn't melted yet or anything, it still looks exactly like when I bought it. So, if anything changes, I'll keep you all updated. I'll try and post another picture soon, if I find time tonight to take one.
Wish me luck!

(The clown was swimming toward the front glass, so he looks bigger than he really is compared to the anemone!)
