I'm new to this, bought some live rock, from a very established tank, and I just found out it has nuisance anemones... Today I shifted my rock and I saw this white stringy stuff on the bottom. Is it some sort of worm? or parasite? is it even bad?
PLease help, I don't want it to get my crab or my clowns.
Thanks

Also, there are some little white things in some of the crevasses of the rock. Are these also something to worry about? They are little and fuzzy. They do not seem to move, and I have been monitoring them... just wondered if i should try to get rid of them?
Thanks.

That feather dusters.... they are harmless filter feeders. The little white fuzzies are probably sponge.

Those are just tube worms, harmless filter feeders.
The others are prob just sponges.
That rock is huge.

phhew! I am really relieved. I thought I was going to have some problem with this rock!!
That rock IS HUGE!! I bought it from someone who took down an old tank. It is well over 20 pounds, just one piece and i only paid about $40!
Well as long as these critters won't hurt my fishkies, I shall leave them be.
Thanks for the help!

Does it take up your hole tank. Do you have any pictures of the whole tank.
I would be tempted to take a screwdriver and hammer and break it in half so you can make better use of it.

yes, here is a picture of the whole tank. obviously, it is not taking up the whole tank. I was actually hunting for large pieces, and i found this great piece... I like the way the larger ones look. And after I get a little bit more established, I am going to get two more smaller chunks that will go on the left and right side.. then come the anemones. I would like to see some other people's home tanks... Do you have a picture of yours?

Actually, That was my next question. I would like something that will support anemones and also something good for cleaner clams, and possible some corals or something in that neighborhood. I have asked at the LFS, but I get different answers from everybody. What is the best brand, and the best bang for my buck?

Brand? For most folks, they just get more LR or dead rock and stack to taste. For LR, I would check local reef clubs and cr@iglist. LFS are rip-offs and it costs a fortune to ship. Usually local reefers will charge $2-$3 a pound and since it's local, you don't have to worry about die-off.

BTW, the Phoenix area has a bunch of folks in reef clubs that sell LR cheap. If you want, I could PM the link to the Phoenix area reef clubs.

Yeah I bought my rock privately. I was actually asking about lighting :0) Thanks for the input though. I will check into the phoenix reef clubs. Yeah, T asked what type of light I was going to get for the anemones. And I don't know what type of light I should get and what would be the best for the money. I would like something to support cleaner clams, anemones and maybe even a coral?? maybe... but I am not 100% on the coral. any suggestions?

Your going to need lots more rock, not just a couple on each side. Also an anemone needs an establised tank of at least 6 months.
Hope this helps. I answered about lights on your other post. I posted an earlier pic of my tank to give you an idea of how much rock.

What size tank is that? IMO, T5 lighting would be a minimum for anemones...but depending on the species, metal halides would be a better option. I have seen success with things like bubble tip anemones with pretty strong PC lighting, but the anemone moved to the very top of the tank.
