Plenum Filtration

I hav been reading non-stop from everywhere. After 30+ years of fresh water tanks, currently have 7, and a pond filled with Koi, I am starting a small salt tank. I have been reading some interesting information about plenum filtration. Anyone have any experience with this either home made or store bought?
Thanks for the help.

i have a plenum system, so are many others on this site. it's working great, nitrate is 0. A lot of folks now prefer using deep sand bed, same result. I built my own cuz ones on-line are over priced. my parts: eggcrate, window screen, 1" pvcs, and plastic straps were all from home depot. It was very time consuming to carefully plan the demensions and removed all rocks, fish into another tank. i am planning on another reef tank, and would use dsb this time. why spend extra time building a plenum system when dsb does the same? just my opinion. ;)

I was reading a book call Live Sand Secrets and it talked about using an Under Gravel Filter Bed with Screening for the Plenum. It seems like it would work without a problem. I am setting up a system from scratch so I have almost free rain to do as I want.

I would read Dr. Shimik's phamplet too. Probably the best two pieces of literature to debate the issue.
I havn't read it yet but will soon. I have read Live Sand Secrets too and decided to go with a DSB. I couldn't get around the mass number of DSB's with good tanks. Not to say pleniums are bad but DSB's are main stream.
