plexiglass cover?

just curious if i would be able to buy some plexiglass and make a cover for my 55 gal. maybe be able to customize it to include hinged portions to feed and other things. I am needing some more room. ive got a 48" strip light w 2x65w pcs. the two covers i have now do not allow the strip to sit completely flush against the covers and it also inhibits me from being able to operate the hinged portions of the old covers.

I built my own cover from an acrylic sheet I bought from Lowes. Some advice I can offer would be to make sure you have enough material to work with because you might mess up a time or two. Make sure you will have enough structural support to hold your lights. I built my canopy for a 44g pentagon tank. I had a PC that came right to the edges of the tank so I did not really need much support for the light, but as time went on the acrylic began to sag a little. I reinforced the hood with perpendicular pieces of acrylic. If you have any other questions I would be glad to answer them. Good luckl :D

I know they have the hinges and the cutting tools. Sorry for the delayed response, I am sure you have found everything for yourself by now.

I had a bad experience with Lowes as far as acrylic is concerned. I called them up and asked them if they could cut 1/4 inch acrylic to size and they said yes. I got to the store and they said they could not do it. So I decided to go glass. Called a place called "Glass Doctor" and they had it cut to size in an hour.
