plexiglass or glass

What I'm wanting to do is increase my lighting by adding more florescent lights. Right now I have a 55 gal with just 2 24 inch lights. I'm thinking of putting plexiglass as my glass between my lights and my bulbs. Will plexiglass absorb some of the spectrum the lights put out or do anything negative that I need. I'm getting ready to build a lighting fixture and need advise to what I should use----glass or plexiglass. The reason I ask is plexiglass is alot cheaper.

It is your preferance.... glass can get kinda hot and plexiglass can too but over time the plexi will get scratched up and cause less light

I work with LEXAN every day at work. It wont break, crack,or scratch like P-GLASS.and is easier to cut and file. Glass may shatter, making a mess in your tank. STEVE
