you put a new canister filter on last night? maybe you started a cycle or something? i know sometimes with carbon you have to wash it before you use it cause then it lets carbon dust out.

I would suggest taking a sample of your water down to the LFS. Many of the local shops will test the water for $2 or $3. Ask them to test for everything, if nothing ells it will help ID where the problem is and give you a good baseline. Dont overlook the basics like salinity and pH.
In the mean time, a water change probebly wouldnt hurt.

really cant help without water test results get the test kits!!!!! very important when owning a saltwater tank. my fishes almost died one time they all looked out of breath and like laying around i found my water was not oxygenated meaning i did not have enough oxygen in my water, also u can use your powerheads to oxygenate a tank point them up to cause small waves like the ocean those waves put oxygen back into the ocean, yes fishes breath oxygen but in a different form. so i bought a tiny pump and stuck a lil stone to give me bubbles in the back chambers an never again have they done that, also if a room is very humid and hot that can cause the water to hold less oxygen and the warmer your water is the less oxygen it holds. so please test and come back and tell us your results.

the water was perfect but no oxygen i am not sure way i posted this in here,because it is a 55gal i am just used to reading all the nano threds because i have a bc29 i guess lol. i bought a api reef test kit for both tanks so no more guessing. i did put a airstone in the 55 for the time being wht would a beter soultion. the whole top of the tank has waves on it so im still stumped why it happind

If the carbon had high ash content then YES a PH spike could have occurred. A PH spike very well could have stressed the fish and eventually lead to their death.

hmmmm, hard to say without water test, gotta know what could have happened.. those numbers, have u gottn a testkit?

yea, everything came out perfect but the oxygen and tht is what killed them i bought a new api master reef test kit,but my lfs tested the watter there.this is a regular joe tht oppened this shop its not a big chain store and she used an api kit to test everthing and her personal kit to test the oxygen

yeah tht i took her she put it in a tube with some stuff shook it and color matched it well it was way low she said the fish was sufacting did she do it right

Dissolved oxygen analysis measures the amount of gaseous oxygen dissolved in an aqueous solution. Oxygen gets into water by diffusion from the surrounding air, by aeration (rapid movement), and as a waste product of photosynthesis.
When performing the dissolved oxygen test, only grab samples should be used, and the analysis should be performed immediately. Therefore, this is a field test that should be performed on site. Wondering how long it took you to get to the LFS as of course the O2 content would diminish in a sample of water.
