plumbing canister filter w/ sump?

Have a 150 with a Megaflow sump. I'd like to add a canister filter, maybe even one with a built in UV. Is it better to upgrade the return pump and plumb the canister into the return, so that all water is filtered, or run a separate closed loop in and out of the sump to the canister? The first seems like it would capture more debris, would be less cluttered, with fewer pumps, but the second allows independent systems, but might not filter as well.
Also, if doing a closed loop from the sump, where's the best place to pick up and return the water -- the larger skimmer area or the area by the return bulkhead? Does it matter?
Any opinions of these filters?
Eheim large canister: No Links Please

Thanks.

My thoughts of filtration...
Large (adaquate) quantity of Live Rock and SSB for Biological filtration (suface area for Bacteria)...High Flow , distributed through out the tank to keep deitrus suspended and removed from MT,promote gaseous exchange and maintain oxygen levels...a Large sump and LARGER Fuge with Macros for malnutrient removal through export (denitrification) and a Killer Skimmer to remove Mass quantities of DOCs (organics) prior to decomposition...
With a well balanced system, no other "filtration devices" (bioballs/biomedia) are necessary...Other than the ability to run Chemical Media (carbon or phosphate removers) from time to time, best done in a Fluidized bed (or converted canister) type system...
I don't think the canister will "add" to filtration if sump and LR are set up correctly, but could be used to power UV as well as run carbon and chemicals..
Canister should be in/out of sump "OR" in/out of tank not one of each...
If from sump, inlet and outlet in return (clean water) chamber....

I am running a sump and then going into a canister with a uv light. the canister really helps to polish the water. I noticed a big difference after adding it. depending on the pump you currently have you may not need an upgrade, i did! GL
