Plumbing help....

I bought a new drain and overflow plate for my shower. The instructions said to use pliers to remove the old drain by placing the handles in the drain and twisting. When I did this the cross bars in the drain broke, so now I don't have anything to grip to unscrew the drain.
Any ideas?

Glue something on or in it.
Or melt something on or in it.
If all else fails, use the old fashioned method - hammer and anger.

Is there something that you can prop a screwdriver up against? Maybe you can unscrew it by hitting the srewdriver with a hammer. If not then do you have a dremel? Maybe you can cut part out with the dremel and that can help you unscrew it or pry it out.

Any pictures of what it looks like now. The grate usually lifts out (or have a screw to hold it down) and then the neck below that unscrews.

I put a 3/4 bath in my last house. New Installation is easier than repair or upgrade. However, I remember the grate was just a snap in and the neck if you would call it that had big o-ring (to seal against the pipe) and you screwed the neck/flange down to meet the shower base on the PVC pipe. There were groves in the flange under the grate that you used to tighten it. Yours must be a different a style.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has something go wrong every time I try to do something. Murphy lives in my house.
