Plumbing help

Hi, I just picked up a 65 gallon tank, and want to plumb it into my existing tank and sump system. I want to keep my 75 gallon display up stairs, put the new tank in the basement and move the existing sump to below the new tank. I got the new tank for added water volume and plan on using the it for frags.
Should I do it like I have pictured? both tanks draining into the sump and returning from it? Should I be using one large pump with a T or two separate pumps for the return? Also the new tank isn't drilled so I need some DIY help on building an overflow.

It should work either way if you use one pump or two but I'm not sure that I would recommend it unless you plan on drilling the new tank as well. I don't know if that's what you meant or not when you say you want to build an overflow.

What wouldn't you recommend?
I'm not sure whether or not i'm going to drill the bottom or the back of the tank, or if i'm going to build or buy a hang on the back overflow.
thats why i'm asking questions looking for pros or cons to each possible solution

I'm pretty sure i've decided to drill the back of the tank. Is there any recommendations on the size of pipe i should use to get the proper or recommended flow? I have a 3/4" bulkhead I could use, but should i use 1" or 1 1/4?

Just saying that I wouldn't necissarily recommend using an external overflow while your main tank is already drilled. That's not to say that it couldn't be done because it can, I just wouldn't go that rout if I didn't have to. Not having to run an external overflow is just one less thing to keep an eye on and maintain.

1" should work fine but I like 1-1/4" better, it's more efficient. I'd stay away from 3/4" for a drain unless you're doing a nano or pico tank. JMO
