I have just purchased a 90g tank with one overflow and need help plumbing it. I have two holes on bottem of overflow 1 inch and 3/4 inch. My question is how do I set up pipe for the water going to my sump from the 1 inch hole. Goes it need to be a hook shape or can I just run a pipe straight up and let gravity do its job. The sump I have has a fuge if that makes a diffrence my return pump is 1400 or 1200 gph I think bought it a long time ago. Is this to much or not enough for a 3/4 inch return

The parts you need are called bulkheads. Install your bulkheads finger tight and then give them a 1/8th of a turn to lock them in place. You can put your PVC connections on there.
The drain will drain like a normal drain. You won't have to run it any kind of configuration, just make sure it dumps water into your sump.
The return you are using is a bit powerful, but nothing unordinary about using a larger return pump on your tank. I would definitely consider putting a ball valve on it to control the amount of flow. a 3/4" line can handle a 1200gph pump.
Please post pictures if you can!

Agree with what Seth stated. I think the return pump is a good fit. Figure head pressure should be a
good fit.

Naw man, I think I would go with something like a durso. It's easy to make yourself and is much quieter. Look into a Herbie design as well - you will loose the internal return line, but it's also a pretty quiet configuration with an emergency backup drain.
If you want to go with an open top, you could always add a maggie muffler, but I don't know how much drain power that would cut it down by.
