pocket knives

Does anyone know what the law states about carrying pocket knives in FL?
I've read some stuff about it being legal if it is a regular pocket knife but what does that mean?
The reason I am asking is because I want to get the CRKT M21 Combo blade and It doesn't look like a regular pocket knife so i don't want to get myself into trouble. I do know that if it is clipped and can be seen then it is not a concealed weapon, but if it is in your pocket and can't be seen then it is illegal.
Thanks for any replies

It varies from state to state but usually a foldable knife, especially one with only a 3 inch blade like that one, should be perfectly legal to carry, either clipped to your belt or in your pocket

My general rule of thumb is that the blade should not be any longer then the length of your palm. (about 3 to 3.5")
You can carry large knives on your belt, as long as it's visible.
I have over 300 pocket knives and only carry a couple. Then again, when I went to school... bout everyone had a pocket knife.

typically you'll be ok with a blade under 3 inches and folding. But it does vary state to state.

Alright thanks guys, I'll give them a call.
right now i have a cr@ppy MTech knife that i carry for work and i love the CRKT knives so i just wanted to make sure if i get it then i won't get screwed over.
Anyone else carry a knife for work or defense? What brands do you like or would suggest? S&W has some decent knives for a nice price.

I got bitten by the custom bug a while back.
Dont get me started on knives.

I dont do the tactical thing.
I have had col river in the past and they do make a nice knife for the price but its a different animal comparing production to handmade.
What is the price range you want to stay in?
We all like different shapes and styles, but what are the features your looking for?
I personally like carbon knives.
Best recomendation I can give is- Buy anything BUT a Frost.

It looks like 4" closed is considered a common pocket knife.

under current florida law you can carry a "common pocket-knife".
There is no legal definition of a "common pocket-knife". What is "common" is determined by the jury. These days a combat folder is pretty common. I've taken a larger more aggressive looking combat folder off a juvenile (related to a fight arrest) and had the carrying concealed charged dismissed. I've also seen someone get charged (they plead out) for carrying a small swiss army knife (not my case).
If you're not doing anything silly with it you should be fine.

Thanks Veni and scorpio so I guess as long as your not starting cr@p and have it on you then there will be no cr@p?
RFB I'm only 17 so im not looking to buy anything expensive but i've seen the CRKT ranging from 40$ to 100$ so It depends on what site. I like the tactical look but as long as it isn't bulky i guess. Just really a nice knife that i can have on me, I saw a S&W one that is carbon body with a titanium blade and the body is blue and black, I think i might look into that one and it was only like 25$ if i remember right on the knifeoutlet website.

Sorry..... I was in the Marine Corps.....I am a K-Bar girl.................I love love love them......I had a little one that I hung around my neck that had a whistle on it for self-defense that I carried for a long time. Darn thing was as as a razor blade though. I had to be really careful with it. They have some really awesome ones. I really should get another one with all the crazy things going on these days.......

Kinda hard to argue with this, I love the K-Bar as well and for very similar reasons, but a "real" K-Bar is not exactly a small pocket folder. I was recently given a new one by my father in law, sweet

I carry a Kershaw in my pocket and either a Benchmade or Gerber on my belt, depending on if I'm working or not. K-Bar or Gerber LMF on boot when hiking though

CRKT makes a fairly good knife, esp for it's price range so no qualms with it. I can't say a thing about the S&W knives though, never owned one.
