So Ill post this since there seems to be alot of inquiries lately about mandarins and pod's supply. I want to set up a 10 gallon tank to do nothing but grow pods, and maybe hatch some live brine shrimp. let me know if you have any questions comments or thoughts.. Ill even listen when you tell me its to small.. ]=)
hardware
$14 10 gallon from petsmart
$6 lamp from home depot
$2 15 watt grow bulb from petsmart (suggestions)
$15 rio 600 with foam for mechanical filter.
thats $37 total for a working tank.. ]=) now I know there is hardly any filtration but keep reading.. I have a skimmer that I will take out of my sump and run every now and then if it gets terrible..
3" DSB with silicate sand
1" additional seeded from established tank.
5 lbs of small LR to transfer pods around to tank.
wont feed the tank much so I wont need much filtration.
inhabitants.
pods
nassarius snails
hermit
macro algaes (so it doesnt look completely bad)
maybe sand sifting star
coran angel (kidding)
any thoughts questions comments?? I know it wont be a super stable system.. but I think the pods will do good regardless.. I have neve set up a pod tank so if you have please let the rest of us know how. I dont have room under the tank for a refugium so my macro is in the main tank cant grow pods when the mandarin eats them right away.. sorry so long.. THX for reading ~DAniel :D

Sounds good to me DAniel !
As a matter of fact, personally I think a smaller pod tank would be the way to go.
When I set up a 15 high, I had about 6-8 lbs live rock and before I knew it - it was teeming with pods of several varieties.
I guess because it was a small tank, the pods were all concentrated in a smaller area than that of a large tank - which in your pod farm will be ideal. Especially if you plan to not have any pod eaters like fish, you'll have a nice small, inexpensive source of bugs.
When you go to move a piece of live rock to your other tanks - you may have a better concentration of pods - maybe ;)
At least that was my experience.

like i posted in the other thread about this all i have going is a 10 with a hang on power filter, and heater. I'm using it as a qt but in the mean time it will grow pods until i have to empty it out after i qt a fish. I have two pvc pipes and some cc and hair algae that came from the main tank. Within 2 days there were pods everywhere.
