Hey guys, I live just outside of Philly, and Im trying to find out if someone wants to trade me a small nano-sized frag for some Copepods.
I made a small "pod-tank," and there are MILLIONS of these things now!! 3 weeks ago, I took a 1 gallon vase, added fresh RO Saltwater (tropic marin), added some aragonite and (DEAD) live rock, and a small airstone. I dont have separate lighting for it per se, but it sits right next to the tank and it also has recessed lighting right above it. I feed them a little bit of phytoplankton, and WA LA! They are everywhere!!! I think they are so successful because I killed everything in the live rock before I added them. This way, if there were any small predators in the live rock, there wouldn't be any longer!! A week before I started this "pod tank," I boiled the chunk of LR and then let it sit outside of water. Now there are tons of uninhabited nooks and crannies for the 'pods!
So again, if anyone local (or not local) wants to trade, I am game! The only reason I suggest local is so you could come over and see these little guys in action before we swap. (I dont know if they will survive well in the mail, although I know they are shipped often).
At this point, I am just reproducing them for my own tank. My goal is to make it a self-sustaining food source for my fish. I think a 4-6oz bottle of these guy go for like $20! Why not try them for free?? Start your own pod tank! Whatever you use them for, it has been well documented that 'pods are beneficial to aquariums in many ways. Plus they are cool to watch! They zip around the tank before the fish gobble them up!
