Poly filters

Is it uncommon to change a poly filter in three days?
In process to buy protein skimmer for my 325 gall fish only tank.
Tank was cleaned on Friday and Sunday the Poly fileter was black.

Looking to put a red sea 1200 protein skimmer to help.
What do you think? This is a fish only tank.

Guess we need a Protein skimmer asap.
Changing the Poly filter every other day can get expensive.

Will put pictures up in the next few days.
Only have about 29 inches of ht and the Red Sea is the only Protein skimmer that can fit and has a good reputation.

get what you can. Then I would throw in some live rock in the sump along with some cheato set up a fuge. This can only help.

Sounds like a plan. Since you are in Md where is a good place to get live rock and fish?

Get some Seachem Matrix and put it in a high flow area of your sump. These are a great filter that never needs replaced.

I buy the my poly filter from a fabric store it works the same and they sell a lot cheaper and I buy huge bulk. Well of course the filter will get dirty quick since large amount of volume of water pass through constantly and it builds up.

Blue Copper
Red Iron
Green Free Copper ions
Brown Normal organic load
Black Heavy organic load
Yup need to up your biofiltration and or mechanical filtration for the heavy organic load.

if your filters are turning black in 3 days you have some serious issues with your tank.
You have a huge tank. Set up the mechanical filtration correctly since that is your only means of filtration.
