i just noticed some of my purple based stars are missing their polyps. could my hermits be eating them?? they have looked fine otherwise, i even noticed some new growths. all i have for fish is an ocellaris clown and a diamond goby. i have noticed every now and then my goby will pick at them sometimes, but never seen it yank a peice off or anything. it's just some around the edges, i have a few polyps with just a green head and no tentacles???? anybody got a clue? i had taken my hermits out of my main tank because i noticed they would drag their shells through my polyps and bend them, but added them back a week ago to clean up some hair algae. also, i found out a couple days ago i got a pistol shrimp, but that shouldn't hurt my polyps though, right? any other critters i should look out for?? i really like my purple polyps, they seem to be growing faster than anything else in my tank. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!!!

First of all,i'am not 100% sure of this, but my
button polyps didn't open right away i thought
they were dead, but after a little reading i found
out, that when they die they will fall off, don't
know if this is your trouble, but just wanted to
share it with you.

well, i kinda got to thinking after i looked at them again, the one's that are missing polyps are the one's farthest away from the light. maybe that's why, i don't know. i did notice new growth on the opposite side, so i guess that could be a logical conclusion - but, it's weird nonetheless. i figured i had more than enough lighting for these, but maybe not. anyone else is welcome with ideas. thanks =) :)

Hey. I got your message on the goby thing and sometimes the polyps will shed their tenticles when under stress. The tenticles will grow back after a week or so. maby put them closer to the light. how long have you had the polyps? my emrald crabs nip at everything the can get their claws on.
PS, how do you get pictures on the post?

i've had them for about 3 weeks now. i do know about the emerald crabs, cause my roomate had one eat at his feather duster one time. trying to stay away from them, even though they're cool!
not sure about pics on post, can't get mine to work either. i had to add a link to my yahoo photo page, which is a pain. sure would be nice to put pics directly. maybe someone else could help.
