pond foam experiment

I was thinking about using a ten gallon tank i have to try to make a "sort of" bare bottom tank. i'm going to spray a 1 inch thick or so layer of pond foam on the bottom and then i'm going to do half the tank pressing on some cc and the other half with sand. they will overlap in the middle so i can see what a mixture of the two would look like. after its dry ill just shake off/vacuum what didnt get stuck into the pond foam. my thinking is that it would be much easier to clean but the bottom would appear to have sand/cc.
what do you think?

all the foam walls i have seen done they used epoxy to stick the sand too it... I dont think sticking it to the foam will be a thick enough later to cover the black...
other than that, people run bare bottom tank so this should work about the same with some of the benefits of having sand...
