Ponies Love the Ehiem

After a lot of tinkering I got the Ehiem up and running. Every one came out and start swimming all over!

Surprisingly the only place i've seen seahorses while diving has been on a wall dive in Cozumel with a crazy strong current. Saw several on that dive...

I noticed that as soon as I turned the Ehiem on they all jump into the strongest current. I wonder if it helps to clean off dirt. algae, and other unwanted attachments.
These particular bunch I ordered came from the Florida Keys, which has crazy strong currents too!

Hmm... Very interesting theory. Better than any I've come up with.

Last night, I watched my ponies while I was playing with the position of the spray bar. As soon as I positioned the spray bar as in the picture below, they all jumped into the flow
and went spinning around the tank.It became aparent that each time they swam into the current and got washed around the tank they were testing the currents and learning how to use the current to get to the part of the tank they wanted to be in.
One of the little females made several passes and reajustments to land on a hitching post on the bottom left corner and she wanted a particle branch too. She missed it at least 4 times, and went back into the wash and tried again. Finally success.
Basic tank set up instructs seahorse owners to maintain a low flow in the seahorse tank. But most wild seahorses live in very high flow areas. Theses areas are thickly planted with plenty of hitching posts. Also Seahorses are advantageous hunters. What ever floats by and fits in their snout is fair game. Thus the advantage of high flow. So why are we instructed to maintain low flow in our tanks?

I'm going to try to buffer the flow from the spray bar by covering it up with a artificial plant mat.
