As I've written in other posts my lfs sold me a valentini puffer as a "mimic file" and I also purchased a porcupine puffer.Last night I read on another saltwater site that they were absolutely NOT compatable with my reef that I am begining, full force in a couple of days..soooo..I drove around for at least 3 hours today to all of the lfs' in the valley and hit every website I could think of;I still have no answers!!Everyone differs on opinion..so here I am,please help as majority will rule..Do you think my puffers will be a danger to my reef once they grow(they are only 1" now)??If so I'd like to return the fishies to the lfs tomorrow.
Thanks..really <img src="graemlins//urrr.gif" border="0" alt="[urrr]" /> <img src="graemlins//confused.gif" border="0" alt="[confused]" />

the valentini should be ok but i believe the porky will feed on your rock and corals. as far as being together they will be fine its when you add similar species that you will have a problem

I've got a 4" porky who ignores all the inverts in my tank. However, I don't keep corals and haven't tried him with smaller fish yet. My gut feeling is that when I do get some smaller fish in with him he'll ignore them too...all he cares about is being handfed.
My opinion is that they are very individualistic fish and can be trained that their food comes from you...at least that's been my experience.

I have a porky and valentini also, I have no problem with them. as for putting smaller fish in there with them, it all depends on the porky's size, I feed mine fresh water rosies, he devoures them, but I have a couple damsels in there and he don't bother them. as for the valentini, he won't bother anything, he eats flake food out off my hand two times daily..the puffers are also very cool to watch sleep

You may have a problem with the pork if he is in a 55g but that won't be for a few years. He also may just have a taste for inverts and/or corals and there will be nothing you can do to stop him. Its the chance we take but I have heard and seen it done before.
