Port Jackson Shark

Anyone out there have one? Was wondering about feeding, etc? My lfs has a rescued one and I'm thinking about buying it. A huma huma trigger tore it apart about three months ago and my lfs guy went and rescued it. A little damage to the fin still, but seems to have survived. You should have seen the damage done by the huma huma.

Yeah, sharks should not be kept with triggers in the first place..
What size is your tank, because they need a tank equivalent to 800-1000 gallons to start.

You need aHUGE tank , they need about a 750 gallon tank just as a pup. they grow upwards of 5.5 to 7 feet

Hmmm....I've been reading up on them for awhile and the average size for a male is only 75cm female being 85-95cm. I have seen that 5.5 feet thing only in one article, but most seem to agree no more than 3.5 feet on average

Okay, even if they only get 3.5 feet, which is wrong, do you have a tank that is 12-15 feet long? It says in your profile that you have a 90. That is 4 feet long. How is the shark even going to turn around in a 90 gallon tank?
Any article that I have ever seen reports 5.5 feet to 7 feet for growth of Port Jacksons.

im not trying to bust your butt, i just dont want you to buy a shark , that in a year, your going to look at and it literally fills your whole tank up! and as lioncrazz said you will need a tank (if you really beleive they only grow 3.5 feet long) that is 7 feet wide for him to turn around in comfortably. i am getting my shark in a week so i have researches ALL of the aquarium specimens that i could possibly research and i love the port jackson but there just way to damn big !
also do a search on google images for a port jackson. Once you see a full grown port jackson youll realize they get ALOt bigger than 3.5 feet!!

Well I have a 220 that's six feet long (currently cycling for the last two weeks). My 90 is a reef tank that I've had set up for 9 years. I've been doing my research for awhile on this shark and three other people who I've spoken to so far said theirs got to be 2.5-3 feet long in three years. Just thougt I'd keep asking before I made the decision.

well its definantly your call but IMHO you need at least a 400 to evan consider one and i still wouldnt do it with that size tank. that means your tank is 30 inches long , that is if its 6 feet long and 24 inches high, which means it wouldnt have enough room to turn. However if you plan on keeping a juvi for a year then getting a larger tank in the 400 -500 range then i say go for it! but it sounds like hes already bigger correct?

I found this on my google serch. The port Jackson Shark, which can grow to 1.65 m.

There is no way that a Port Jackson shark will live in a 220... I have a 210 so I know how the tank is structured. There is no way a shark will be happy in that size tank.
