possible ick

I just bought a yellow tang from the lfs. I brought it home and the next day noticed possible white spots on the fins. It is in quarentine. I added cupramine this morning and tonight when I got home it is breathing hard and at the top on the tank water and won't eat. I believe these are signs of pre-ick. From what I have read on this web site tonight, it looks like I should do the hypo method. Is it to late for this and does it seem like ick?

If your fish are dying off that quickly then I would recheck what it is that I am doing as far as acclimation periods for new fish and making sure PH and salinity are on par and even close to the that of the water the fish came from.
What I usually do is give my shop owner a down payment and let him keep the fish while he brings it to PH levels Temp and salnity levels to match that of my quarantine tank. This way the environments are almost identical and also it makes sure you are not getting a fish that just got in and not settled yet.
How many days did you have the Tang because I did not think Ich killed as quickly as a day or two.
