Possible scrubber problem, help

I clean a few aquariums around town and one of the aquariums that I clean - well, the power went out for a day and a half over the weekend and the business owner didn't call me to let me know anything about the fish tank. (problem number 1) I could have helped her with her fish, adding a battery pump or battery air pump or something to her water and taking care of the scrubber screen by submerging it in water until the power came back on. Well, problem 2 is the scrubber screen dried completely up and when the power came back on, water rushed over the screen and a lot of the nutrients from the algae was released back into the tank. Problem 3 is that the scrubber screen has to entirely be re-started and there is no filtration on the tank now for the next week (it's been a week. Problem 4: Since a lot of nutrients were released back into the tank, cyano is starting to form in the tank and is getting ahead of the scrubber screen growth. I know eventually that the scrubber will out-compete the cyano - but...
I'm thinking about using chemi-clean to get rid of the cyano in her tank, turning her lights off, letting her feed the fish every two days half of what she normally does and doing a large water change after the treatment to see if I can get the algae scrubber ahead of the cyano.
I'm just really disappointed that this happened. Instead of paying me what she owes me for my services, I let her start paying me for equipment to run her tank. I would really like to put a nice protein skimmer on her tank and heck, maybe even a phosban reactor. I know she needs new metal halide bulbs as well. I hate it when a customer wants a world class aquarium on a non-existant budget.
Anyways, this is half a rant, half asking for ideas on what you would do to the tank and tell her.

Sounds like you just need to be frank with her. Tell her everything you just told us, and that you recommend the skimmer and stuff. Maybe with the lights out for a day or two the algae scrubber can get ahead of the cyano. Running a filter with carbon wouldn't be a bad idea either, even temporarily.

I feel for you Seth.....I was in that boat 5 years ago with tons of maintenance, and your worse nightmare honestly is a customer like that. 1 of the main reasons I got away from maintenance. I wouldn't forgo being paid for your time and expertise though. Not saying you take advantage of customers, but bottom line it's her system and if she didn't think far enough to call you and let you know the tank didn't have power, that is solely her fault and responsibility.
I would look at putting a skimmer on the tank.....Possibly scrubbers weren't meant or designed for customer tanks as well. I only say this in the advent of a customer not fully aware of how the equipment works and what is required. Maybe part of your maintenance with this particular customer should be a little "education" on how it all works!!!!!!
Put a skimmer on the tank, and yank the scrubber.

Yeah. I'm going to yank the scrubber and go with a skimmer on this system. I don't see myself putting any scrubbers on anyone else's tank. I thi k imgoing to do the three punch combo on this tank - skimmer, GFO reactor, chaeto fuge.

I'm starting to realize that scrubbers aren't meant for maintenance clients. Sad, really, but what can yah do???
Anyone got skimmer ideas? Octopus diablo cone skimmer? I think I want to buy it outright out of my pocket and yank it when she officially fires me.

I have a feeling her business is goin to close soon. I actually offered to buy her tank (110gshow) I just don't think she cares anymore.

What a shame.
just my typical advice here. Kill the lights on the display and keep them on the scrubber. I think the tank will be fine in a little while.
