Possible TOO BIG UV sterilizer

We have a 125 gallon tank. Trying to provide the best possible environment for our pets. Is it possible to have too big of a UV sterilizer on our tank? I have seen 180g with 18 watt sterilizers, is a 36 watt too big for a 125? Thanks in advance for any replies.

I have a 25w on a 150g. It seems to be ok. Just make sure you have a low water flow going into your sterilizer to ensure longer contact, But also you dont want it to low, or it may burn up.
I also read somewhere before that its not till you get 18w(or somewhere around there) you kill certain types of bacterial and algee. But I do agree anything over 25w is just overkill. 18-25 I think may work best for you.

Save your money......if you are purchasing the uv to kill/prevent ich. THey do not work due to exposure time and flow rates.
If you insist on buying one, do some research on maintenance requirements and the appropriate way to set the uv up on your system.
Money is better spent on a top of the line protein skimmer.

I second that. Ditch the UV and spend your money on something that will benefit you more. I'd get a calcium reactor over a UV.

Yeah, I also agree to stay away from the UV. You can get clear water and parasite free water without one.
